Disco on the Green?
Upper West Siders who live near the storied Tavern on the Green in Central Park say they are at their wit’s end because of “intolerable and unacceptable” noise booming from the iconic eatery.
“They blast music to the extent that you can physically feel the vibrations of the bass in your bed,” griped Central Park West resident Susan Kahn, 44, who recently urged the community board to take up the cause.
Tavern on the Green — which has been located at West 67th Street since the 1880s — closed for over a year because of the pandemic and reopened in April 2021 with a “reimagined dining scene.”
But recently, the restaurant has been throwing ear-splitting parties up to four nights a week, Kahn said. Staffers display “arrogance” whenever she complains, she added.
Robin Baum, who sits on the board of directors of a Central Park West building, said that fielding complaints about the noise levels from the Tavern is now her “number one job.”
“We’ve met with them privately and they agreed that they were going to abide, but by the next weekend they were completely amped up, volume up, “ Baum said. “It’s just a living issue for thousands of us.”
The NYPD said there have been 57 noise complaints regarding Tavern on the Green to the city’s 311 hotline within the last year.
