Trump orders limits on Wall Street home buying

United States President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at limiting Wall Street firms from buying single-family homes. The move seeks to protect access to housing for families and first-time buyers, according to the text of the order, released by the White House.

The directive instructs federal agencies to prioritize sales to individual buyers and restrict transactions that transfer homes to corporate ownership, saying, "People live in homes, not corporations." It calls for antitrust reviews by the Department of Justice (DoJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and mandates disclosure of ownership in federally assisted rental programs.

The order also instructs the Department of the Treasury to define investor categories within 30 days and mandates that agencies, including Housing and Urban Development and Veterans Affairs to publish guidance within 60 days. "Hardworking young families cannot effectively compete for starter homes with Wall Street firms and their vast resources," the statement read.
