N.Y. State Senate names Amazon critic to board that could block deal

The New York State Senate has named Senator Michael Gianaris, a critic of Amazon’s $3B deal to come to New York City, to the Public Authorities Control Board that will likely have to approve the development plan for the e-commerce giant, the New York Times reports, citing the Senate. A spokeswoman for Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who could reject the selection, said, “This recommendation puts the self-interest of a flip-flopping opponent of the Amazon project above the state’s economic growth. Every Democratic Senator will now be called on to defend their opposition to the greatest economic growth potential this state has seen in over 50 years.
